Artist Al Diaz is Rush Arts Philadelphia's Artist of the week! Photo of Al Diaz by Sheena Garcia

Artist Al Diaz is RUSH Art Philly Gallery's Artist of the week! I had the honor of visiting Mr. Diaz in his Brooklyn Studio and was blown away by the powerful statements in his art! I learned so much from him as he shared stories about his early creative work and close friendship with Jean Michel Basquiat. For those who have seen the movie "Basquiat" directed by painter Julian Schnabel (1996) you'll remember actor Jeffrey Wright in the title role. Benicio del Toro received the Independent Spirit Award as Best Supporting Actor for his composite performance of artist Al Diaz. More about the film here: https://libwww.freelibrary.org/programs/…/onefilm09/film.cfm
In the coming weeks, stay tuned for more announcements about Mr. Diaz's work. In the meantime, see more of Mr. Diaz's art and collaborative works with artists such as Julie Ballistic and Dave Navarro from the Red Hot Chili Peppers at: https://al-diaz.com/ More about RUSH Philly Gallery at; https://rushphilanthropic.org/
